About BV

What is bacterial vaginosis?+

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) occurs when the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina becomes disrupted, and bacteria associated with BV can become more dominant.

What causes BV?+

BV is associated with a disruption of the natural vaginal bacterial balance. A number of factors can influence the vaginal environment, including changes in vaginal pH.

What are common symptoms of BV?+

Symptoms may include unusual vaginal discharge, an unpleasant or fishy vaginal odour, vaginal discomfort and irritation. Some women experience no obvious symptoms.

Is BV the same as thrush?+

No. BV involves a bacterial imbalance, while thrush involves Candida (yeast). Symptoms can differ — for example, odour is often noticeable with BV and discharge is often thicker with thrush.

Why can BV cause unpleasant vaginal odour?+

Changes in the vaginal environment, including a rise in vaginal pH and a shift in vaginal bacteria, can be associated with an unpleasant vaginal odour.

Can BV come back?+

BV can recur. If your symptoms are new, persistent or recurrent, speak with your pharmacist or healthcare professional.

About pH

What is vaginal pH?+

Vaginal pH describes how acidic the vaginal environment is. A healthy vaginal environment generally maintains an acidic pH.

Why is an acidic vaginal environment important?+

The naturally acidic environment is associated with supporting beneficial Lactobacillus and the natural vaginal microbiological balance.

What does Lactic Acid do?+

Lactic Acid helps lower vaginal pH and helps maintain and restore the vagina's naturally acidic environment.

What are Lactobacillus bacteria?+

Lactobacillus species are beneficial bacteria associated with maintaining the naturally acidic vaginal environment and the natural vaginal flora.

About hydration

What is Sodium Hyaluronate?+

Sodium Hyaluronate is recognised for its moisture-binding properties. In Floraelle it helps moisturise the vaginal epithelial surface.

Can Floraelle help with vaginal dryness?+

Floraelle provides moisturisation of the vaginal epithelial surface and is designed to help alleviate symptoms associated with vaginal dryness, including discomfort, tension, itching and burning.*

Can vaginal dryness occur during menopause?+

Yes. Changes in oestrogen around perimenopause and menopause can affect vaginal tissue and moisture.

Can vaginal dryness contribute to discomfort during intercourse?+

Dry vaginal mucosa can contribute to friction and discomfort. Floraelle provides moisturisation of the vaginal mucosa, helping support vaginal comfort.
